The Danish Pioneer Magazine, Pionermagasinet, issue no. 5 (summary)

The fifth issue of the Pioneer Magazine is now out, and the theme this time is signs – signs of innovation, signs of success.

Young people need to learn to be innovative, to think new thoughts, to see the opportunities around them and to convert ideas to value – much good work to further innovation is being done all over Denmark. Many teachers and other educators use specific methods in their teaching strengthening these skills in pupils and students, and the result often is that pupils and students engage more and feel more motivated about their education. The question then is what it is about the teaching that has this effect – what is it that works?

The Pioneer Magazine focuses on how teachers and educators may define and find signs in the teaching of what it is that works in relation to the development of pupils’ and students’ innovative skills. The magazine presents a few methods and tools as well as a number of articles on best practice at selected educational establishments. The Pioneer Prize 09 was awarded in September 2009, and you can read about the winners in this issue of the Pioneer Magazine. Both winners and Special Prize winners are excellent examples of how innovative teaching programmes may be devised.

In this issue, the Pioneer Magazine also goes beyond the borders of Denmark to look at how innovation and entrepreneurship are made subjects of education in Scotland. On the back page of the magazine, you find an Innovation Map of Denmark, illustrating a small selection of the innovative teaching programmes and projects that are currently being worked on all over the country.
