Htx is a fulltime three-year technical upper secondary education programme, which qualifies students for admission to Danish business academies, schools of technology and design, university colleges and universities.
The htx programme focuses on subjects related to the fields of technical sciences, natural sciences and informatics combined with foreign languages and other general subjects. Htx-students test the theoretical aspects of the curriculum in workshops and laboratories.
Compulsory subjects and levels* in the specialized study programme
* A= upper level, B= medium level, C= basic level.
Following the completion of the foundation course, each student chooses a specialized study programme.
Each consists of a set of two subjects and one or more electives.
Each school must provide a selection of 18 standardized programmes which students can choose from.
| Example 1: Specialization in applied natural sciences | Example 2: Specialization in technology | Example 3: Specialization in communication and IT |
|---|---|---|
| Mathematics A | Technology A | Communication/IT A |
| Chemistry A | Design B | French language B |
The final individual project (3.year) is based on preceding interdisciplinary cooperation between several subjects across the htx profile, covering a total of six or seven research areas related to humanities, social and technical science. The students gain experience with the subjects’ methodology, theory of science and academic disciplines to prepare them for the final stage of their education.
The project must be based on two subjects, out of which one is A-level (= upper level) and the other related to one of the study programme’s profile subjects.
20 class hours are allocated to this process as well as 30 hours of self-study, covering a period of ten days. This includes supervision and study related activities with relevant teachers.
Each student completes a minimum of 2770 hours of classes. In addition, the programme includes homework, written assignments, research, etc., as well as examinations.
Various methods of teaching are employed, e.g. classroom instruction, project work, individual and group based written work, etc. Case-based teaching, experimental and workshop-based activity also plays a significant role in the htx program. Up to 20% of the teaching time can be spent on virtually organized teaching.
Htx is typically offered by technical colleges, which as well offer vocational education and training. Some schools also offer the hhx program, and a few schools offer all four upper secondary programmes (hf, stx, hhx og htx).
